What We're Reading...

Summer is in full swing, which means it’s time to lounge on the beach under the shade of a fabulous sun hat and get completely lost in a book. From Parisian-chic memoirs to novels set in the south of France, here is our must-have reading for the summer:

A Paris Apartment: A Novel by Michelle Gable

A modern-day New Yorker takes us through the delights of her charming Paris apartment. You’ll visit moments from the Bell Epoque as the protagonist uncovers treasures and secrets buried in her apartment, including a portrait of a woman she’s intrigued to learn more about. Whether reading with an iced latte or a glass of rosé, A Paris Apartment is entertaining, alluring, and inspiring.

Mistakes Were Made (Some in French): A Memoir by Fiona Lewis

Model and actress Fiona reflects on a glamorous and privileged youth, questionable choices, and impromptu romances. Her impulsive purchase and subsequent restoration of a French chateau in the South of France serves as the backdrop to this inspiring memoir.

How to Be Parisian Wherever You are (Love, Style, and Bad Habits): A French Guide by Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret, and Sophie Mas

“Wear a black bra under your white blouse, like two notes on a sheet of music.” This Parisian handbook, written by four eccentric Parisian women, is filled with chic and witty anecdotes to “give an insight into the quintessentially Parisian art of being a woman.” Short and sweet chapters take us on first dates, to dinner parties, and to the countryside where the four friends attempt to debunk “French woman” myths, while still admitting their own (very “Parisian”) quirks and attitudes. Bold and endearing, with a touch of rebellion.

The Little French Bistro: A Novel by Nina George

Parisian protagonist Marianna leaves her loveless, unhappy life in Paris for a new beginning on the French coast of Brittany. She finds warmth and ease among the local Bretons. In her new life’s welcoming embrace, she discovers that it is never too late to start over and search for your own life’s true meaning. This charming novel is full of joy and a delight to read for easy, laid-back summer days.

Amour Provence: A Novel by Constance Leisure

Set in two small villages in the South of France, we follow the stories of several characters in a gripping novel of passion, romance and secrets. The summer heat of the region is mirrored by the intensity of the relationships. We’ll let you uncover the rest!

The Price of Illusion: A Memoir by Joan Juliet Buck

Former editor-in-chief of Paris Vogue (and the only American to have ever edited a French magazine), Joan Juliet Buck dazzles us with her tales of a life lived of glamorous abundance and a seemingly make-believe world. After being abruptly dismissed from Vogue, she learns that the splendid illusions of beauty and excess are inherently ephemeral. Her story is a refreshingly universal tale of self-discovery.

The New Paris: The People, Places & Ideas Fueling a Movement: A French Guide by Lindsey Tramuta and Charissa Fay

Take a journey with this current guide of Paris to experience the rapidly evolving words of fashion, design, food and drinks. This hip guide walks us through the new generation of local oh-so-chic spots and fashion addresses. A delightfully fresh read for the Parisian in all of us.
